How to read the map
CDC Social Vulnerability Index

SVI ranks counties relative to one another from 0 to 1. Higher values indicate greater social vulnerability.

An SVI of 0.25, for example, is the 25th percentile. That means the county has greater social vulnerability than about 25% of U.S. counties and lower vulnerability than about 75%.

FEMA National Risk Index

NRI compares relative natural-hazard risk across communities. Overall Risk incorporates Expected Annual Loss, Social Vulnerability, and Community Resilience.

Choose an individual hazard to view its relative risk, including hurricanes, flooding, wildfire, tornadoes, heat waves, earthquakes, and other hazards.

Important: FEMA NRI Social Vulnerability and the CDC Social Vulnerability Index are separate measures. They should not be interpreted as the same dataset.
